As we wrap up another academic year at Holmer Green Senior School, we extend a huge thanks for your unwavering support. This year has been bustling with a wide array of enriching trips and visits, ranging from Whipsnade Zoo and World War I Battlefields to theatre outings such as The Woman in Black, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and many more.
We deeply appreciate the dedication of our staff and Governors, who have consistently gone above and beyond, often sacrificing their personal time to ensure our students have these valuable experiences. Their commitment helps us achieve our vision of guiding each student to become the best possible version of themselves in every way. This collective effort is what makes our community strong, and we welcome anyone interested in supporting us as a governor.
This newsletter aims to give you a glimpse into the diverse activities available at our school and the exciting events that unfold throughout the year. We encourage you to motivate your child(ren) to participate in these opportunities or join the various extra-curricular clubs and activities starting in September. These engagements not only impart essential skills, but also foster friendships.
We eagerly anticipate Excellence Evening on 12 December, where we will celebrate our students' hard work, academic achievements, and community contributions.
To our Year 11 and 13 students, we wish you the very best in your A Level, BTEC, and GCSE exams and in your future endeavours, whether at university or in apprenticeships. Please note that Year 13 results day is on 15 August, and Year 11 results day is on 22 August.
The new school year begins on Thursday 5 September 2024, for Year 7 and 12 students. All year groups will resume on Friday 6 September 2024, with normal timetabled lessons. Students are expected to wear full school uniform at all times, with PE kits required only for PE lessons.
Finally, we wish everyone a wonderful summer break. We hope you enjoy quality time with your families and that all our students stay safe, returning refreshed and ready for the new school year. With the Olympics on the horizon, I leave you with these words and a poem for summer:
“Courage is the mother of all virtues, because in a world that’s not virtuous, it’s a brave thing to go out there and do what needs to be done.”
Aristotle
“Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.”
Mark Twain
