Welcome to our Christmas Newsletter 2022. There are a range of articles here to interest all.
We have been heavily focused on Year 11 and 13 mocks; Sixth Form Open Events; and a wide-range of trips including, Stratford Upon Avon, sporting fixtures, Safe Drive Stay Alive, theatre trips and Dance workshops.
Our Sixth Form Students have been entering into the Christmas spirit by collecting food items for the ‘One Can Trust’ in High Wycombe, which has been so successful because of all the donations from students and parents across all year groups. It is great to see how much joy everyone gets from giving. The SuSu (Stand Up Speak Up) team have also been working hard to raise awareness of disability issues with a successful ‘Purple Socks’ day this term.
A new display goes up in the LRC (Learning Resource Centre) in January with the ‘Top 10 Books for each subject area a student should read before going to University/getting into a particular career’. We would highly encourage Years 10-13 to explore these books to put themselves in a good position for UCAS/Apprenticeship applications.
After the very tragic incident reported in Birmingham recently, we would ask all parents and carers to reinforce the messages we have been sending out in assembly and Tutor time for students not to risk walking on ponds that have frozen over with ice and better still, to verbally intervene if they see their friends doing the same and dissuade them from doing so.
As a reminder, Wednesday 4 January is a staff training day and all students begin timetabled lessons on Thursday 5 January.
I want to thank all of our students who have put themselves out for others this half-term and a very kind parent who paid for our disadvantaged students to have their Christmas dinner this year. This kindness, recalls a lovely passage from Maya Angelou:
“My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness. Continue to allow humour to lighten the burden of your tender heart.”
I hope everyone is able to spend some quality time with family and friends this holiday.
