Fish Heroes
In November, our Food Department were lucky enough to receive a donation from the Fish Heroes programme to give some of our Hospitality and Catering students a new and brilliant opportunity. The donation consisted of 2kg of mussels which allowed our Year 10, 11 and sixth form students to experience working with shellfish.
Working with shellfish was new to the majority of students and many were eager to try the new recipes. Each class of students were offered three different types of recipes along with all the necessary ingredients. These three recipes consisted of: Thai style mussels, Moules Marinere and Jamie Oliver angry mussels. Before cooking with mussels, it was important to cover all of the risks associated with them, students learnt the correct way to check, cook and prepare the shellfish. After the dishes were cooked and presented, the students were keen to tuck into their delicious food.
